The Lifestyle
The Northwest Florida lifestyle is never ordinary, no matter how many times you visit or whether or not you decide to make the adventurous move to become a local. Living here is better than being on vacation year round. So many people love the beauty, serenity, recreation, culture, etc., that they end up moving to the region or at the least—owning a second home here.
It's natural to think of "healthy living" when you are surrounded by such inspiration: fabulous seafood, wonderful restaurants, joyful festivals, incredible beauty, breath taking sunsets, not to mention the pristine gulf waters, crystal white sand and a myriad of recreational interests.
People the world over frequent the region: celebrities find privacy and sanctuary, (the local folk seem to understand and deeply respect this need in those drawn to the area), international folk from diverse cultures arrive and Americans from all over make it "their place."
Destin is not a huge cranking singles party scene. It does have lots of single people and places to go, but it is not known as a party place for singles. Families and couples are the dominate visitor groups. Until recently, you had to be 25 to rent any place or have an adult of that age with you. That may have changed now, not sure, but it was strickly observed until a couple of years ago.
There are lots of college students and international students that come to work at the beach or at one of the resorts in the summer months. There are night spots and live music venues that also draw some singles out and about but it is certainly not like some beach areas along the Eastern coast of the United States.
Visitors to the area come to relax, chill, create and enjoy the amazing beauty of the Florida Gulf Coast. The area is small and intimate yet filled with year round celebrations, festivities, arts & cultural events and is extremely progressive—similar to what one would find in a significantly larger urban area.
Clearly, there is a special place for every heart. From the city of Destin itself to the outlying areas (30A and the beaches of South Walton), each community is very unique and has a culture all its own. Explore . . . and find your place in the sun!
